Nothing like a surefire collection to make stock market bells ring, right? At Michael Kors’ Fall 2012 showing—the first since his company went public in December—he pulled out all the stops to make the registers go ka-ching. The celeb-filled front row, including Jessica Alba, Stacy Keibler, Anjelica Huston, and Debra Messing (and me, in case you were wondering), oohed and ahhed over the heritage-style buffalo-check skirts, overcoats, and capes, the sequined flapper evening gowns, and the ultra-glam layered furs. The designer’s colour of the season, red, was particularly winning on a retro tailored overcoat combo’d with removable fur collar that was elongated to one side. It was that Bay-blanket feel but double the luxe.

Kristin Kreuk, who portrayed Lana Lang in “Smallville,” is set to star in The CW’s “Beauty and the Beast” reboot.

“Beauty and the Beast” will be loosely inspired by the 1987 Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman CBS series of the same name, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Kreuk will star as a New York homicide detective named Catherine who becomes close to Vincent, a military vet who was turned into a beast in a failed experiment. Vincent acts as Catherine’s slightly protective guardian angel from his underground lair and avenges her mother’s death by killing the man who murdered her nine years earlier.

Ron Koslow, who created the original 1980′s series will serve as an Executive Producer on the series. Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper penned the pilot script while Gary Fleder directed.

The “Beauty and the Beast” reboot will also have to face-off against a different “Beast” pilot ordered by ABC in January. Fleder, who directed the CW’s pilot is also executive producing the ABC series.

“ABC’s is definitely more in the fantasy fairy tale space. Ours is a more a contemporary grounded version,” CW’s development head Thom Sherman told Entertainment Weekly. “The beast in this case, he does have some beast-like qualities, but he doesn’t look like a beast 24/7. He ‘beasts out,’ as we say. It’s more about a young woman’s search for love in today’s society. Here’s a manly man who can quote poetry and kick ass at the same time, but he’s got this one little problem. She’s a cop, he’ll be helping from the shadows.”

Kreuk is best known for her role as Lana Lang, Clark Kent aka Superman’s love interest before he met Lois Lane in “Smallville.” The show, which starred Tom Welling as Clark Kent, ended its 10-year run on May 13, 2011.

The 29-year-old Canadian actress has also appeared on NBC’s “Chuck” and in films like “EuroTrip,” “Partition,” “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li,” “Vampire” and “Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy.”

Kreuk is also no stranger to the fairy tale genre, having played Snow White in ABC’s 2002 TV movie, “Snow White: The Fairest of Them All.”
